Jaunpur city is situated in the south-eastern Uttar Pradesh state of North India. This beautiful city is nestled in the bank of Gomti River. This city is around 60 km away from the Varanasi (Banaras). Jaunpur city is linked with rail and roads with the various parts of the country. In the 11th century, the Jaunpur city was first established but washed away by the flood of Gomati River. Later it was rebuilt by Firuz Shah Tughluq in the year of 1359. The fort of Firuz Shah Tughluq still stands in the Jaunpur City. Jaunpur houses the many mosques such as Jami Masjid (1478) and Atala Mosque (1408), along with this there are several other tourist attractions in the Jaunpur.

Shahi Bridge:

There are many names of Shahi Bridge such as the Munim Khan’s Bridge, Mughal Bridge and Akbari Bridge. This wonderful bridge is established by the governor of the state of Jaunpur- Munim Khan, amidst the reign of Mughal emperor Akbar. This Bridge was designed by the Afzal Ali-the Afghan architect. The Shahi Bridge is constructed over the Gomti River during 1568-1569.

Jaunpur City is the historical city situated on the banks of the holy river Gomati. This river is the tributary of the holy river Ganges. As per the Hindu history river, Gomti is the daughter of sage Vashist. It is believed by the people that bathing in this river at the time of Ekadashi washes away all the sins.

Atala Masjid is one of the major tourist attraction in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh. This wonderful Masjid was established in the year of 1408 by the ruler of Jaunpur- Sultan Ibrahim Sharqi. First, there was a temple instead of a mosque named as Atala Devi that was destroyed and the mosque was constructed there. This mosque gets its name from the temple.

Trilochan Mahadev Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, and this temple was established in front of the small pool. Jaunpur Fort:

Jaunpur Fort is also known as the Shahi Qila or Karar Fort. The earlier version of this fort was known as the Kerrar Fort, and after then in the year of 1306, it was reestablished by the Ibrahim Naib Barbak who was the chieftain of the Firoz Shah Tughlak. The Jaunpur fort is situated near to the Shahi Bridge.

Lal Darwaza Masjid:

The city of Jaunpur, located in Uttar Pradesh, India is well- known for its wonderful mosques and forts. The Lal Darwaza Masjid is one of them. This Lal Darwaza masjid is also known as the Ruby Gate mosque. This mosque was established by the Queen of Sultana Mahmud Sharq- Bibi Rajni in the year of 1447. Lal Darwaza Mosque was specially established for the Queen to offer her private prayer.
